Our ultimate goal with every client is to have delivered to you a first-class project and to have earned your trust, friendship, and your referral.
Bucheimer Co. Design and Build, LLC is proud to serve our clients in the central Maryland areas of Frederick, Montgomery, Washington, Carroll and Howard counties.
Initial Consultation
It all starts with your phone call to us! After an in-depth telephone conversation, your initial in-home consultation with Bucheimer Co. Design and Build, LLC is free. We will gladly come to your home and spend time with you discussing ideas and lending you the benefit of our experience. At this meeting, we will each be assessing the other to gauge the feasibility of working together. Be prepared to discuss the cost of the project including what your budget range is. We will give you feedback on costs, some basic design ideas and a potential time table. After this initial meeting, the next step typically leads directly into the design phase.
Design & Planning
This is where the fun starts. Once you have signed a Design Agreement with us, we begin working closely with you to custom design your project from the initial concept, construction drawings, specification writing and permits. This process also results in a comprehensive Construction Agreement that is complete with a Scope of Work, Cost of Work, dates and specifications.
We believe that form follows function and that a simple elegance is usually best – allowing the inherent aesthetic of beautiful materials and a balanced composition to make the boldest statements. Our design approach is one that starts with the existing architectural style of your home, considering your lifestyle, blending your ideas with ours and finally pulling it all together into a design that is original, functional, budget conscious and, most importantly, gorgeous.
Construction
Because most people are living in their homes while remodeling, adequate protections must be put in place to control dust, manage debris and protect existing furnishings and finishes while insuring safety. Federal Law mandates that all homes built before 1978 be subject to lead safe demolition and tear out procedures. Bucheimer Company Design & Build, LLC is a registered EPA Lead Safe Firm. This means you will see poly walls with zippers, drop cloths, temporary floor coverings and daily clean-up including vacuuming. While the process occurs, naturally your driveway and/or street front may take on the look of a construction site. There will be a yard sign out in front and maybe a dumpster and portable toilet. Depending on the project, a safety fence may erected to control and contain the work zone and protect the residents of your house and the general public.
Once the site is set up and protections are in place, the tear-out begins. Excavation and foundations, when called for, come next and then structural framing. It is at this point when the project begins to take shape and you can start to get a sense of how things are going to look and work. This is also where questions sometimes arise and changes are called for. If there are changes requested to the design, this is the easiest time to make them – prior to drywall. And don’t worry, changes midstream are not uncommon. We will flex and bend as needed to be sure you are happy with the finished product.
Mechanical installations, plumbing, electrical and HVAC come next. Building inspectors usually make an appearance after the mechanicals. At this point, the project will transition from the “rough” phase to the “finish” phase as it moves into insulation, drywall, trim and paint.
Custom installations, flooring, cabinetry, final plumbing and electric occur next as the end of the project grows nearer. The final finishing details are crucial and sometimes seem to take an unusually long time but careful attention to detail during this phase makes all the difference in turning out a first-class final product.
When it is all complete, the dumpster will be gone and your driveway will be back to normal again. Your mornings will be quiet and the house will be ready to be enjoyed for many years to come!
